How many employers advertise vacancies on their own web sites ?
Many direct employers now publish their own content on the internet.
For example, in the UK 86% of medium-large SME's have a business web-site*.
Major companies employ 20% of the UK private sector workforce and 21% of UK workers
are employed in the public sector. These major recruiters routinely build
and publish their own recruitment content.
For example, our own surveys show that the UK FTSE 250 companies are advertising
over 7,500 vacancies at any one time. Similarly, local government sites carry over
6,000 vacancies at any one time.

How many recruitment agencies have web sites ?
There are over 3000 recruitment agencies based in the UK. Virtually all medium
to large recruitment agencies carry vacancies on their own sites.
What do you mean by vertical portal ?
A vertical portal is a web site which services users with a narrow interest, for
example, a special interest group, a niche technology, a location or a common job
function or sector. A few examples from thousands include :
www.wiredsussex.co.uk
www.gamesindustry.biz
www.recruitermagazine.co.uk
www.accountancyage.com
Does JobsEngine work with all web sites ?
Experience has shown that JobsEngine can transfer jobs from around 80%-90% of web
sites in the recruitment sector.
We are a job board - how do we start using JobsEngine ?
Firstly, you will need to supply our team with a copy of your job feed specification.
We will them implement the interface beween JobsEngine and your job board.
You may then start adding recruiters from which you would like to transfer jobs.
How do we add a recruiter ?
Recruiters can either be added to the system:
- by the JobsEngine team at your request
- by yourselves - using JobEngine tools
Please contact JobsEngine for more details.
Our job board requires specific field values - can JobsEngine supply these ?
Yes, JobsEngine contains an advanced "mapping" component that will supply the values your
job board expects in required fields.
For example, if your job board requires jobs
to be classified by their job function then JobsEngine can automatically analyse the job text to select a permitted value.
On the rare occasions
that JobsEngine is unable to perform a mapping automatically a user may provide an appropriate mapping.
JobsEngine "learns" from each mapping failure so its performance imroves over time.
Can we choose which fields we want ?
Yes. This is usually determined by your job feed specification.
Can JobsEngine spider other job boards ?
Technically, yes. However, we require JobsEngine users to obtain permission from
any web site that is being spidered and to respect each sites copyright.
Can JobsEngine provide a link to the original advert ?
Yes, this is usually possible if the recruiters site supports it.
Can JobsEngine supply the job application details ?
Yes. Contact details such as the recruiter name and address, email address and telephone
number are usually available. JobsEngine can supply the address of a job application
web page if supported by the recruiters site.
Does JobsEngine use the job closing date ?
Usually yes - if the recruiter specifies one as a part of the job advert. Otherwise,
jobs are posted to the job board for a selected number of "live days".
How often does JobsEngine transfer jobs ?
You choose. The spiders can be scheduled to run at any frequency, but usually once a day is selected. JobsEngine will analyse all jobs seen on the recruiters site
and only "new" jobs are usually transferred. There are also options to take a "snapshot"
of a recruiters jobs.
How does JobsEngine work ?
JobsEngine uses internet "spider" or "bot" technology to visit a recruitment website and access its vacancies. Unlike search engine spiders, JobsEngine only visits sites to which it is directed,
it does not "crawl" the Internet looking for all sites.
Ordinary spiders simply
build a keyword index of all text but a JobsEngine spider
"understands"
the structure and content of a site. It is able to do this because it is configured
specifically for each site using a unqiue tool developed by JobsEngine.
JobsEngine can access content which would be inaccessible to most spiders such as
search results, scripted and dynamic content.
Although there
is a small overhead in configuring JobsEngine for each recruiter
the overriding benefit is that
the resulting data obtained is structured and high quality.
What happens if the design of the recruiters web site changes ?
This will usually stop the spider picking up vacancies. However, when this happens
it is automatically reported. Experience has shown that most web sites update their
designs infrequently.
